Getting the kitchen set up for success

Having a well stocked kitchen can make all the difference at meal time. However 'well stocked' can mean different things to different people. Filling your pantry with items that were purchased because they were on sale or someone recommended it is not going to be very helpful. Stock the pantry with the basics, items that the family uses on a regular basis. When trying a new food, buy the small size. If it turns out the family loves it, then buy the larger size. We try to cook from scratch as much as possible, but life can be busy so we also stock a few items like marinara sauce.
It is also a good idea to find a style of containers and jars that will work with your shelving. We have deep shelves in our kitchen pantry so we use rectangular containers to maximize storage. We also use clear uniform containers. It makes it easier to find the food item we are looking for.
